How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies or Lahn Mah (Thai: หลานม่า, RTGSLan Ma, lit: "Grandma's Grandchild") is a 2024 Thai drama film directed and co-written by Pat Boonnitipat, starring Putthipong Assaratanakul (Billkin) and Usha Seamkhum (Taew).

Synopsis

M, a university dropout low on money and luck, volunteers to take care of his terminally ill Amah[a] in the hopes for an inheritance.

Production

How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies or locally known as Lahn Mah is one of the projects of GDH in 2023. At first, the film was to be titled as The Chinese Family, due to its content about the relationships of Sino Thai family members.[2]The film was inspired by true events that happened in contemporary Thai society.

The cast is headed by popular teen idol Putthipong "Billkin" Assaratanakul, and also the first performance of the senior actress Usha Seamkhum.[3]

Talat Phlu, a traditional community recognized as one of Bangkok's Chinatowns, was chosen as the filming location. By simulating it to be Amah's neighbourhood.[4]

Release

The film's first release date is April 4, 2024. In just the first 14 days, it was able to gross 250 million baht nationwide, making it the highest-grossing Thai film of 2024.[1] Later, it made a record of being the 11th highest grossing Thai film of all time and the highest-grossing GDH film in Bangkok, Metropolitan Region and Chiang Mai.

In Indonesia, the film was released on May 15, 2024 with great success. It is considered the highest-grossing GDH film in Indonesia[5] surpassing Thai-Korean horror The Medium’s 700,000 admissions in 2021, and the second biggest Asian film in Indonesia, after Exhuma.[6]

The film became the highest-grossing Thai film in Singapore over the June 6 to 9 weekend, with $1.16 million ticket sales.[7]
