Old River is an unincorporated community in Kern County, California.[1] It is located 9.5 miles (15 km) southwest of Bakersfield,[2] at an elevation of 344 feet (105 m).[1]

The settlement was founded in the 1870s and named from the old Kern River bed.[2]
