Kolonel Richard Evelyn Byrd adalah pengelana wilayah kutub dari Amerika Serikat dan penerbang terkenal. Ia lahir pada tanggal 25 Oktober 1888 di Winchester, Virginia. Ia menjelajahi Kutub Utara dan Kutub Selatan. Ia meninggal pada tanggal 11 Maret 1957. Gunung Byrd di pulau Ross, Antarctika dan kawah Byrd diberi nama dengan namanya.
